Even if you stick to the gas model, you will get to choose from various EcoBoost engines. The Fusion is ready to seat five passengers in comfort and turn heads wherever you choose to take it.

The Fusion is a compact sedan with a budget-friendly price tag, but it still manages to fit in all the safety features you'd expect from larger, more expensive models. 2016 vs. 2017 Fusion: What's Updated

There are not many major differentiators from the 2016 model to the new 2017 Fusion. Put them side by side, however, and you will see that the grille on the latest Ford Fusion has gotten sleeker and smaller. There are now LED running lights in the reshaped headlights, and the fog light area now merges with the lower air dam. In the back, there is a chrome strip connecting the taillights, which have also been redesigned, although maintaining their shape.

The interior of the 2017 Ford Fusion also shows a handful of key updates, mostly to enhance functionality. You will now find a rotary transmission shifter that is intuitive in its use and makes room for the electronic parking brake on the center console. Other interior updates include better cup holders and an extra front bin that is the perfect size for your smartphone. The Fusion Platinum is a completely new trim level for 2017. This model has a two-tone color scheme, soft leather, wood trim, quilted seat leather, and the feel of an entry-level premium sedan. Look under the hood, and you will get slightly better fuel economy. There is also a new Fusion V6 Sport with a 325-horsepower 2.7-liter turbocharged V6 that is all new and an adaptive suspension. Rounding out the updates for the 2017 Fusion are technological enhancements, like the SYNC 3 system, which is faster and more intuitive than the system it replaces and includes both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Even the safety of the Fusion has improved with new pedestrian detection.

Get to Know the Ford Fusion's History

The Ford Fusion's first generation went from 2005 to 2012. It was offered in three trim levels and front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. It was the first Ford to have the brand's new three-bar grille, and drivers could choose a 5-speed automatic or manual and a 160-horsepower Duratec 4-cylinder or a 221-horsepower V6. The list of features expanded for 2007, with the SE and higher getting a fold-flat passenger seat as standard and available SiriusXM Satellite Radio. Other standard features included DVD-based navigation and front-seat airbags. ABS became standard in 2008, and Rear Parking Assist became an option.

The 2010 Fusion got a facelift inside, and this was when the Fusion Hybrid arrived. It paired a 2-liter Atkinson-cycle engine with an eCVT and the high-voltage electric motor. The second generation arrived in 2013, which is also when the Fusion Energi Plug-In Hybrid was introduced.
