Salem, VA, Home of Berglund Ford

Customers from all sorts of cities and areas around Salem, VA come to our dealership looking for a new or used car. But what is so interesting about Salem, VA? With a population of around 24,000 people, Salem is an independent city that shares borders with Roanoke, VA and the whole of Roanoke County. It originally began as a small settlement along the path of the Great Wilderness Road (Interstate 81 today). In 1802, Salem was officially founded. It then received its charter 4 years later, in 1806. However, it was not until December 31, 1967, that Salem officially became a city proper. The origins of its name are something of a mystery, but there is a widely accepted belief that the name stems from the birthplace of prominent citizen William Bryan, who was originally from Salem, New Jersey. Salem is home to two notable colleges (Roanoke College and Elizabeth College) and is also a hub for athletics, including sports such as baseball, basketball, volleyball, softball, and football.
